Get Moving Again
Welcome to Active Recovery Physiotherapy & Hand Clinic.
Our Services
Our physiotherapists will provide you with a thorough physical assessment, assess your timelines and goals for rehabilitation and develop a customized treatment plan to get you back to all the activities you enjoy as quickly as possible. We provide detailed home exercise programs for flexibility, strength or posture, some hands-on treatment, and modalities for pain and to facilitate healing where appropriate. We offer specialized hand therapy services but we do treat the entire body! The arm is part of the body as a whole! You’ll leave your initial appointment with a plan for your recovery and a home exercise program to get started on your own.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No, you do not. Physiotherapy is direct access which means you are welcome to book an appointment to come and see us without a doctor’s referral. However, you may wish to check the specifics of your extended medical plan to see if they require a referral. We are able to submit extended health claims on your behalf for most plans without a doctor’s referral.
Is Hand Therapy a covered expense under my extended health plan?
Yes! Our hand therapists are registered physiotherapists so your extended health billing would go under “physiotherapy”.
Are the splints / braces you provide covered by my extended health plan or MSP?
Splints are not covered by MSP but they are often covered by extended health providers. Many plans have provisions for “rigid” splints or “custom rigid” splints so it is good to read the specifics of your plan before you purchase one. Soft splints are often not covered.
Do you treat more than just hands?
Yes! We are physiotherapists and treat the whole body. Hand Therapists specialize in treatment from the shoulder to the fingertips but the arm is part of the whole body! If you require assessment of multiple areas, please discuss this with the administrative staff or your therapist. We may need to book an additional assessment or a longer treatment session to make sure there is time to address all your concerns.
Can you direct bill for my appointments and splints?
Yes! We can direct bill to most extended health plans for physiotherapy assessments and treatment sessions. Some extended health plans will allow us to direct bill for splints and supplies but most do not. Check with your extended health provider to see what they allow us to direct bill.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
It depends. At your initial assessment your physiotherapist will evaluate you and develop a personalized treatment plan with recommendations for the number of sessions required based on your specific injury, timelines and goals for recovery. Often physiotherapy involves a minimum of 6 sessions to achieve a full recovery. Some problems require only an assessment and other more chronic conditions require regular ongoing sessions.
